Tuning Systems
While looking at page ten of Owen H. Jorgensen's "Tuning", the following thought occured to me.
In the chronological 'evolution' of temperaments, each successive tuning system became generally more, and at the same time, specifically less, in tune than the system preceding it.
Just - restrictive, irregular, noncirculating, based upon nature
Meantone - restrictive, irregular, noncirculating, supports character of keys
Well - unrestrictive, irregular, circulating, supports character of keys
Equal - unrestrictive, regular, circulating, contains no color contrasts
