A good Jazz solo

...will always have some of these things:
The melody
Melodic Sequences
Harmonic Slips
Chords
Non-eighth Notes
Intervals larger than a second
Trills or ornaments
Appogiatura
Slides
Muted Notes
Dynamics
Quotations
Silence or space
… and a bad solo by a young player will almost always have none of them.
